The importance of nutritional supplements is widely recognized in both high income and middle to low income countries. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and specific fatty acids, these are ususally considered as essential nutrients which are necessary for overall health. Our body needs these high quality nutritional resources for body health. However, some of these important nutrients can only be obtained from foods or supplements. So quality supplements should provide energy, structural components, vitamins and minerals. But not all the supplements are beneficial for your health. Nutrition researchers should focus on whole foods rather than only on single nutrient, in the journal of Nutrition Reviews, David R. Jacobs, University of Minnesota professor of epidemiology said. So if you can, choose the natural ones especially fruit and vegetable supplements. But do not believe those who claim their natural health products as all-powerful functional ones. Such products tend to exaggerate their own capabilities to mislead consumers.
